Cats cannot improvise their diet.
A cat is an obligate carnivore, which is not a marketing phrase. It means a cat cannot make some essential nutrients from plant sources the way a dog can, and a diet that would merely be poor for a dog can genuinely damage a cat.

What we would check first.
Taurine is not optional
Cats cannot make enough of it and a deficiency causes heart disease and blindness. Any complete cat food has it. Dog food does not, which is why a cat cannot live on it.
Wet food is doing more than feeding
Cats evolved to get most of their water from prey and are poor drinkers. Feeding some wet food is one of the most useful things you can do for a cat's kidneys and bladder, especially a male.
Watch the dry food and the water bowl together
A dry-only cat that drinks little is the classic urinary blockage waiting to happen, and in a male cat that is an emergency, not a nuisance.
The questions people ask in this aisle.
Can my cat eat dog food?
Not as a diet. A stolen mouthful is harmless, but a cat fed dog food will eventually go short of taurine, arachidonic acid and vitamin A, and the damage from that is not always reversible. If you keep both, feed them separately.
My cat only wants one flavour. Is that a problem?
It is a risk, because a cat that will eat only one thing leaves you stranded when it is out of stock or when illness means the diet has to change. Rotating between two or three foods a cat accepts, while it is healthy, is worth doing.
