Read the first three ingredients
They are most of the bag. A named meat first is a good sign. "Meat and animal derivatives" tells you nothing at all, deliberately.
Match the life stage
Puppy and kitten food is not adult food in a smaller bag, and adult food will not grow a healthy skeleton. Senior food exists for real reasons too.
Check the storage, not just the food
Lagos heat and humidity turn fat rancid in an open bag faster than most people expect. Buy a size you will finish in a month and keep it sealed and off the floor.
Change food slowly
Over seven to ten days, mixing more of the new in each day. A sudden switch is the single commonest cause of the diarrhoea people then blame on the new food.

Is expensive food actually better?
Sometimes, and not reliably. Price buys marketing as often as it buys nutrition. What you are actually paying for is protein quality and consistency between batches, and the way to judge that is the ingredient list and how your pet does on it over a couple of months: coat, stool, energy and weight. If those are good, the food is working.
Can I feed my dog rice and bones like everyone does?
Plenty of Lagos dogs live on it and some do reasonably well. Two things go wrong: it is usually short on calcium and several vitamins, which shows up over years rather than weeks, and cooked bones splinter. If you want to home-feed, ask us to look at what you are actually giving and we will tell you what it is missing.
Do you deliver food?
