Kidneys, joints and hairballs.

Cats hide illness until it is advanced, so most useful cat supplementation is aimed at the two things that quietly arrive with age: kidneys and joints. Both benefit from being addressed before they are obvious.

What we would check first.

Water beats almost every supplement

For urinary and kidney health, more wet food and more water sources do more than anything in a bottle. A fountain persuades many cats to drink who ignore a bowl.

Arthritis in cats hides as tidiness

Cats do not limp much. They stop jumping, stop grooming the far side, and get called lazy. Joint support helps, and so does putting the food where it does not need a jump.

Hairball remedies are second line

Brushing is first. If a cat is bringing up hairballs weekly, that is worth a vet visit rather than a tube.

Asked most

The questions people ask in this aisle.

My cat has early kidney disease. What actually helps?

A prescription renal diet is the single intervention with the best evidence, and it beats every supplement. Phosphate binders and omega-3s have a role your vet can advise on. Water intake matters enormously. Come and talk it through rather than assembling this from labels.

Are supplements covered by pet health cover?

Not as shop purchases. Treatment given as part of covered veterinary care is settled through Skeepy Pet HMO on cat plans, and HMO clients get 5% off the shop.

Not sure what your pet actually needs? A vet at the visit will tell you, and will say when the answer is nothing. Book a home visit
