The reason a lot of Lagos pets are treated on a guess is that getting a sample to a laboratory is a nuisance. It stops being one when somebody comes to you, takes it properly and handles the rest.

What the appointment actually involves.
Drawn properly
Clipped, cleaned and drawn cleanly. A haemolysed sample gives wrong numbers and is the commonest reason a result is nonsense.
Handled correctly on the way
Right tube, labelled at your table, and cooled in transit. A sample that sits warm in a car for two hours is not worth running.
Accredited laboratories
Couriered to labs we already work with rather than the nearest one.
Results explained
A vet calls you and goes through what the numbers mean and what changes because of them. A PDF with arrows on it is not a result.
Kept on file
Stored on your pet's record so the next test has something to compare to. Trends say more than one snapshot.
Before we come
- Ask us whether your pet needs to fast before the visit. For some panels it matters a great deal and for others not at all.
- Keep your pet calm and out of the sun beforehand. A stressed, overheated animal skews several results on its own.
- Have previous results to hand if you have any, even old ones from another clinic.
Afterwards
- Lab fees are charged at cost with a handling fee on top, and you are told what the lab is charging before anything is sent.
- If a result needs acting on urgently, we call you rather than wait for a scheduled follow-up.

What can actually be tested from home?
Most routine work: full blood count, biochemistry, kidney and liver panels, tick-borne disease screens, urine, skin scrapes and swabs. What cannot be done at home is imaging, so if the answer needs an x-ray or a scan we will say so and point you somewhere for it.
How long do results take?
Usually one to three working days depending on the panel. Some screens can be run in the field on the day and we will tell you at booking which yours is.
