What the appointment actually involves.
What is actually in it
Distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvovirus and parainfluenza in one injection.
A check before the shot
Weight, temperature and an examination. A puppy already incubating parvo must not be vaccinated, and only an examination catches that.

Carried in a monitored cool box from our fridge to your door.
The course mapped out
Puppies need more than one dose to be protected. We write the whole schedule on the card at the first visit so you can see what is left.
Before we come
- Have the puppy's date of birth and any previous doses to hand, including anything given by the breeder or seller.
- Until the course is finished, keep a puppy off ground where unknown dogs have been. That is where parvo lives, and it survives for months.
- Mention any diarrhoea or off food in the last few days before the vet draws up the vaccine.
Afterwards
- Quiet and a little sore for a day is normal. Repeated vomiting, a swollen face or collapse needs a call straight away.
- A single dose is a start, not protection. The gap between doses is what builds it, and skipping the last one wastes the earlier ones.

How many doses does a puppy need?
More than one, given a few weeks apart, finishing at around four months old, then boosted as an adult. The exact number depends on how old the puppy was when it started and what it had before it came to you, which is why the vet sets the schedule at the first visit rather than us quoting a number here.
My dog is an adult and has never had it. Is it too late?
No. An unvaccinated adult starts a course too, usually two doses a few weeks apart, then annual boosters. Adult dogs die of parvo as well, just less often than puppies.
Is it covered by pet health cover?
