Treat the pet, or treat the problem.
Ticks in Lagos carry disease that kills dogs, and fleas breed in the house rather than on the animal. Which is why a treatment that only touches the pet fixes things for about two weeks.

What the appointment actually involves.
A proper look first
Ears, groin, between the toes and under the collar, which is where ticks actually sit and where a quick glance misses them.
Applied to skin, not fur
A spot-on parted down to the skin at the right point on the neck. Squeezed onto the coat, which is how most are applied, it does very little.
Product included
Premium veterinary product, not a market spot-on. The price you are quoted includes it.
Honest advice about the house
If the fleas are in the house, we will tell you that treating the dog alone will not work, and what it would take.
Before we come
- Do not bathe the pet on the day. A spot-on needs the skin's own oils to spread, and a fresh bath undoes it.
- Count how many animals are in the house. Treating one of three is money spent for nothing.
- If you have seen a tick, keep it in a jar rather than flushing it. What it is matters.
Afterwards
- No bathing for a couple of days, and keep small children from the application spot until it is dry.
- A tick found weeks later does not mean the treatment failed. It means it is working on a new arrival.
- Watch for a dog that goes quiet, off food or pale in the weeks after a tick. Tick-borne disease shows up late and it is serious.

ReadThe three questions we get every time.
Why do the ticks keep coming back?
Because they live in the environment, not on the dog. Cracks in a wall, kennel bedding, sand in a compound. The dog is where you see them, not where they are. Treating the pet monthly and treating the compound once is what actually breaks it.
Is the treatment safe for cats?
Only if it is a cat product. Several common dog spot-ons contain permethrin, which is lethal to cats, and using one on a cat, or on a dog that sleeps against a cat, kills cats in Lagos every year. We use species-specific products and we ask what else lives in the house before we apply anything.
