Coat care that holds up in this climate.

Heat, humidity and dust do specific things to a dog's coat and skin here, and hot spots that appear overnight in the wet season are the result. Most of the work is brushing rather than washing.

What we would check first.

An undercoat rake if the coat is double

Removing dead undercoat is what actually cools a dog. It is also what stops the mats that hide hot spots underneath them.

Paw balm is not a luxury here

Pads spend the day on concrete that gets hot enough to burn. Cracked pads are painful and slow to heal.

Ear cleaner, used after swimming and baths

Moisture left in a warm ear canal is how most ear infections in Lagos dogs start.

Asked most

The questions people ask in this aisle.

My dog smells again two days after a bath. Why?

Usually the ears, the skin or the mouth rather than the coat, and washing it again will not help. A yeasty smell that returns immediately points at a skin infection that needs treating rather than a stronger shampoo.

Is grooming covered by pet health cover?

The grooming service is: Skeepy Pet HMO includes grooming on its dog plans. Shop products are not covered, but HMO clients get 5% off the shop.
