Perches, cages and the things that cause bird problems.
More bird problems come from the cage than from the bird. Smooth dowel perches of a single diameter, cages that are tall but too narrow to fly across, and grit left out permanently are three of the commonest, and all three are cheap to fix.

Vary the perch diameter
A bird gripping the same thickness all day gets pressure sores on the same points. Natural branch perches of different widths prevent the sore feet we are usually called about.
Horizontal space beats height
Birds fly across, not up. A wide cage is worth more than a tall one of the same volume.
Bar spacing and safety
Narrow enough that a head cannot pass through. Check for zinc and lead in painted or galvanised cages, both of which poison birds slowly.
The questions people ask in this aisle.
Does my bird need grit?
Most parrots and parakeets do not, and constant access to it causes impaction. Some finches and pigeons genuinely use it. If you are unsure what yours is, ask before leaving it in the cage permanently.
Are mirrors and bells a problem?
Sometimes. A lone bird bonding to a mirror can become hormonal and frustrated, and cheap bells contain parts that get swallowed and toes that get caught. Foraging toys that make a bird work for food are better for it than either.
