This is a scratching post for cats. For a cat to scratch, which it will do somewhere regardless. Put it where the cat already scratches, not where it suits the room. Moving it across the house is how a good post gets ignored. It has to be tall enough for a full stretch and heavy enough not to wobble. Cats reject anything that moves when they lean on it, and then go back to the sofa.
